Newsletter sign-ups from your website chat, in MailerLite

Visitors who leave an enquiry in your chat can tick a separate newsletter box. Only those who tick it join your MailerLite group, with their name and email address.

Sending to MailerLite is part of the paid plans. See pricing.

How a visitor who ticks the newsletter box joins your MailerLite group A visitor leaves an enquiry in the chat on your website and ticks a separate, optional newsletter box. Hazelchat records the tick and sends only the visitor's name, email address and the time of the tick to your MailerLite group. The enquiry, the conversation and where the chat came from stay in Hazelchat. If you use MailerLite's double opt-in, MailerLite asks the visitor to confirm first. Connect in three steps

  1. In MailerLite

    Make an API token

Open Integrations, choose MailerLite API and Generate new token. Make it as the account owner: a token stops working when the person who made it leaves the account. You can leave the IP access open. Copy the token; MailerLite shows it only once.

  2. In Hazelchat

    Paste it

Open Connections, choose MailerLite, paste the token into Your MailerLite API token and click Connect MailerLite. Visitor details must be on, as for any tool.

  3. In Hazelchat

    That’s it

Hazelchat makes a group called “Hazelchat” in your MailerLite, or uses the one you already have. The card shows the sentence your visitors will see. To use another group, open More and click Change group.

Hazelchat works with the current MailerLite (a menu down the left side). MailerLite Classic, with a green bar along the top, isn’t supported yet. Hazelchat follows MailerLite’s API documentation. Hazelchat is not made or endorsed by MailerLite.

The newsletter box

While MailerLite is connected, your chat’s enquiry form shows a second box under the one visitors tick to send their enquiry:

“I’d also like to receive [your business]’s email newsletter. I can unsubscribe at any time with the link in each email.”

It is never ticked in advance, and the enquiry is sent whether or not it is ticked. It shows in English, German, Dutch or Spanish, in the language of the chat. Your business name comes from your privacy settings.

Hazelchat keeps a record of each tick with the enquiry: when, which version of the sentence, and the sentence as the visitor saw it. You can export it with the enquiry if you ever need to show the consent.

What goes to MailerLite

  • A new subscriber

Name, email address and the time of the tick, in your group. Hazelchat sends no status, so your MailerLite settings decide.

  • Someone already there

Added to your group. Nothing else about them changes.

  • Someone who unsubscribed

Left alone. Hazelchat never subscribes them again, nor anyone who bounced or reported spam.

  • Left out

The enquiry itself, the conversation, where the chat came from and the visitor’s IP address. Preview, your own tests and AI agents’ conversations never send.

Your Enquiries page shows “Newsletter: yes” and what MailerLite did with it. If MailerLite cannot take a sign-up, the card says so and offers Retry; the enquiry stays in Hazelchat and in your email.

Double opt-in

We recommend it: in MailerLite, open Account settings, then Subscribe settings, and turn on “Double opt-in for API and integrations”. MailerLite then sends each new sign-up a confirmation email, and they join your newsletter only after they confirm. That proves the address belongs to the person who ticked the box, which many countries, Germany among them, expect.

Hazelchat can’t switch it on for you: it is your MailerLite setting, and it applies to every integration in your account.

Your data controls still apply

Pausing capture, turning visitor details off or leaving the paid plans hides the box and stops sending. Disconnect MailerLite deletes the token in Hazelchat; you can also delete it in MailerLite under Integrations. Your newsletter, its legal basis and your own privacy notice are yours; see our privacy notice for what Hazelchat does.

Deleting an enquiry in Hazelchat does not unsubscribe anyone in MailerLite. Visitors unsubscribe with the link in your emails, or you remove them in MailerLite.
