How to add an AI chat agent to your website
Build your agent in Hazelchat and try it first. Then add it to any website with one line of code, or with the app or plugin for WordPress, Wix, Webflow or Framer. Every answer shows its sources.
The Free plan includes 50 answers a month on one website, with no card.
What you need
- A website where you can add code to every page, such as a footer code field. On WordPress, Wix, Webflow and Framer, an app or plugin adds the code for you.
- Your website's address.
- A Hazelchat account. You can start free.
Build your agent first
Sign up and add your website. Hazelchat reads your public pages, and you tick the ones it may answer from. You can add documents and written answers too.
Then ask the questions your customers ask and check the sources under each answer. Visitors see nothing until you add the agent to your site and switch it on.
Any website: add one line of code
-
In Hazelchat
Copy the code
Open Install in setup, or later Website → Install on your website → Continue setup. Choose Something else and Continue, then open Copy the code. It is one line with your own widget key:
<script src="https://app.hazelchat.co/widget.js" data-agent="YOUR-WIDGET-KEY" defer></script>Someone else looks after your site? Open Send to a developer instead and copy the steps, or a prompt for a coding agent.
-
In your website
Paste it before </body>
Paste the line once into your site's footer code field, or just before the closing
</body>tag. If your site has a shared layout or template, add it there so it is on every page. Then publish your site.If your site sends a Content-Security-Policy, allow
https://app.hazelchat.coinscript-srcandframe-src. -
In Hazelchat
Add your website's address
Back in Hazelchat, enter your website's address and click I’ve added the code. Use the domain your pages are served from, such as
example.com, which also coverswww.example.com. The chat loads only on that website. -
In Hazelchat
Switch it on
Click Publish and switch on, or Switch on if your agent is already published. Hazelchat first looks for the line on your website and only then makes the chat visible.
-
On your site
Ask it a question
Click the button that opens your website, such as Open example.com. Refresh the page, open the chat and ask what a visitor would ask. Back in Hazelchat, click Yes, I saw this answer. Hazelchat looks for your answer when you return; it never confirms it for you.
Copying the line does not install it, and the line shows nothing until you switch Hazelchat on.
WordPress, Wix, Webflow and Framer
On these four, choose your platform under Where is your website built? and an app or plugin adds the code for you. Switching on and asking a question work as in steps 4 and 5.
WordPress
Install the free Hazelchat plugin from Plugins → Add New Plugin. In Settings → Hazelchat, paste your Public widget key, tick the box to connect and Load Hazelchat on public pages, then Save settings. WordPress plugin guide
Wix
Add the app from the Wix App Market and click Connect Hazelchat. Confirm with Connect this Wix site, tick your pages, then Add Hazelchat. Needs a published site on a Wix Premium plan. Wix guide
Webflow
Install Hazelchat from the Webflow Marketplace and approve your site. Tick the published pages and CMS items it may answer from, then click Add and publish: Hazelchat adds its script and publishes the site through Webflow. Webflow guide
Framer
Add the plugin from the Framer Marketplace, paste your Public widget key and set up visitor consent. Choose Add to Framer site, then publish your site in Framer. Framer guide
Squarespace
On Squarespace you use the line from step 1. Code Injection needs the Core, Plus or Advanced plan, or a legacy plan that includes it. On Basic, Squarespace switches it off and the code does nothing.
In Squarespace, open the Pages panel, click Custom Code at the bottom, then Code Injection. On a version 7.0 site, look under Website Tools. Paste the line into Footer, not Header, and click Save. Then continue with steps 3 to 5. Squarespace runs no custom code on checkout pages, so the chat does not appear there.
These steps follow Squarespace's own help (code injection, the Pages panel and premium features), read on 14 October 2026. We have not yet tested Hazelchat on Squarespace ourselves. If a menu looks different, Squarespace's page is the up-to-date one.
The Squarespace guide has checks, common problems and removal. Duda, Weebly, Jimdo, Hostinger, IONOS, HubSpot CMS, Ghost, Square Online, Webnode, Carrd and Softr have guides of their own.
Questions
Do I need to know how to code?
No. On WordPress, Wix, Webflow and Framer an app or plugin adds the code. Elsewhere you paste one line from Hazelchat, or send the steps to whoever looks after your site.
Where do the answers come from?
From the pages, documents and written answers you approved, with the sources under every answer. If your content does not cover a question, the agent says so and offers your contact option instead of guessing.
Why doesn't the chat appear on my website?
It appears only after you switch Hazelchat on, and only on the website you added. If Hazelchat cannot find the line, check that you published your site and that the line is complete. If it is not on your home page, enter the page it is on under Manage installation → Installation troubleshooting on Hazelchat's install page.
Can the chat wait for cookie consent?
Yes. Add data-require-consent="true" to the line, before defer. The chat then appears only after your consent tool sends window.dispatchEvent(new CustomEvent('hazelchat-consent', { detail: true })), and closes again on detail: false. The Wix app follows Wix's cookie banner, and the Framer plugin has Wait for visitor consent.
How do I remove it?
Delete the line from your site, or remove the app or plugin. To hide the chat everywhere at once without touching your site, switch Hazelchat off on its Website page.
What does it cost?
The Free plan includes 50 answers a month on one website, with no card. Paid plans are on the pricing page.
