We built this from each banner’s own developer documentation, read on 17 October 2026, and tested it against those descriptions. We have not yet tested it on a live site with each banner. If your banner shows the chat too early or not at all, email us.
Other cookie banners
Add data-require-consent="true" to the Hazelchat line, before defer. The chat then waits until your banner sends:
window.dispatchEvent(new CustomEvent('hazelchat-consent', { detail: true }));Send detail: false when a visitor withdraws consent. With this option and no event, no chat appears, so test it on your published site.
Text for your privacy policy
Your privacy policy names the services on your website. Copy the paragraph that fits, and keep sentence A if your banner asks before the chat loads, or B if it does not.

Chat on this website (Hazelchat)
We use the Hazelchat chat to answer your questions about our offer from the content we have published. The provider is Jan-Philipp Peters, trading as Hazelchat, Germany (hello@hazelchat.co), who processes the data on our behalf under a data processing agreement (Art. 28 GDPR). The chat loads from app.hazelchat.co; your browser then transmits connection data such as your IP address. We process the questions you type and the answers shown and, if you leave an enquiry, your name, email address and message. Where you came from when you start the chat (campaign tags, the referring website and the page) may be recorded with the conversation. The chat sets no cookies; it keeps its conversation credential in your browser's memory only and, where we show short opener messages, two session flags that are deleted when you close the tab. Data is hosted in Germany (netcup GmbH). If we have switched on AI answers, your question and passages from our content are sent to OpenRouter, Inc. and the selected AI model provider, which may be in the USA; the safeguards are named in Hazelchat's data processing agreement. Conversations and enquiries are deleted after 90 days unless we have set a different period.
(A) We load the chat only after you agree in our cookie settings (Art. 6(1)(a) GDPR, § 25(1) TDDDG). You can withdraw your consent at any time in the cookie settings on this website; the chat then disappears.
(B) The legal basis is our legitimate interest in answering visitor questions quickly (Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR) and, for an enquiry, taking steps at your request before a contract (Art. 6(1)(b) GDPR).

Wir nutzen den Chat von Hazelchat, um Ihre Fragen zu unserem Angebot anhand der Inhalte zu beantworten, die wir veröffentlicht haben. Anbieter ist Jan-Philipp Peters, handelnd als Hazelchat, Deutschland (hello@hazelchat.co), der die Daten in unserem Auftrag auf Grundlage eines Auftragsverarbeitungsvertrags verarbeitet (Art. 28 DSGVO). Der Chat wird von app.hazelchat.co geladen; Ihr Browser übermittelt dabei Verbindungsdaten wie Ihre IP-Adresse. Der Chat setzt keine Cookies; er hält seine Gesprächskennung nur im Arbeitsspeicher Ihres Browsers und, wenn wir kurze Begrüßungsnachrichten zeigen, zwei Sitzungsmerker, die beim Schließen des Tabs gelöscht werden. Die Daten werden in Deutschland gehostet (netcup GmbH). Wenn wir KI-Antworten eingeschaltet haben, werden Ihre Frage und Auszüge aus unseren Inhalten an OpenRouter, Inc. und den gewählten KI-Modellanbieter übermittelt, die sich in den USA befinden können; die Garantien nennt der Auftragsverarbeitungsvertrag von Hazelchat. Gespräche und Anfragen werden nach 90 Tagen gelöscht, sofern wir keinen anderen Zeitraum eingestellt haben.
(A) Wir laden den Chat erst, nachdem Sie in unseren Cookie-Einstellungen eingewilligt haben (Art. 6 Abs. 1 lit. a DSGVO, § 25 Abs. 1 TDDDG). Sie können Ihre Einwilligung jederzeit in den Cookie-Einstellungen dieser Website widerrufen; der Chat verschwindet dann.
(B) Rechtsgrundlage ist unser berechtigtes Interesse, Fragen von Besuchern schnell zu beantworten (Art. 6 Abs. 1 lit. f DSGVO), und bei einer Anfrage die Durchführung vorvertraglicher Maßnahmen auf Ihre Anfrage (Art. 6 Abs. 1 lit. b DSGVO).

What happens on your website
- Before a visitor agrees, the chat opens no connection to Hazelchat and stores nothing in their browser. Only the small launcher script downloads, unless your banner blocks that too.
- When a visitor withdraws, the chat disappears from the open page without a reload.
- The chat reads the visitor’s choice in their browser. Nothing about it is sent to Hazelchat.
- A banner the chat does not know never counts as consent.
