Answer guest questions on your OwnerRez website
Before they book, guests ask what time check-in is, whether the dog can come and what the cleaning fee covers. Hazelchat answers from the pages and house rules you approved, shows the source under every answer, and points guests to your booking page for dates and rates. It goes on an OwnerRez Hosted Website with one line of code.
The Free plan includes 50 answers a month on one website, with no card.
The questions guests ask before they book
Hazelchat answers only from what you added: your website pages, files and written Q&As. If the answer is written nowhere, it says so and offers a way to reach you instead of guessing.
Check-in and check-out
Times, early check-in, late check-out and how guests get the keys. Usually on your property pages or in your house rules.
Pets
Whether pets are welcome, how many and any pet fee. If your site only says yes or no, write the details as a Q&A.
Cleaning fee and other fees
What each fee covers. Hazelchat checks every number in an answer against your sources, so it never states a fee it cannot find.
Parking
Where to park, how many cars fit and whether the street needs a permit.
Minimum stay
The usual minimum and how it changes by season. For exact dates, the booking widget has the final word.
Dates and rates stay with your booking widget
OwnerRez shows live rates and free dates in the booking sections of your Hosted Website. Hazelchat answers from your pages as they were when you added them, so let the widget answer what changes with every booking. Hazelchat takes no bookings or payments.
In Hazelchat, open Behaviour → Actions, choose Book a meeting as the Next step and enter your property page as the Destination URL. With several properties, use the page that lists them all. Guests then get a button to that page, labelled Book a meeting, when they ask about booking and whenever the chat has no answer.
If you add a page that shows a rates table, read it again under Sources when your rates change, or leave it out.
What you need
- An OwnerRez Hosted Website. It is a premium feature with its own monthly charge, switched on in OwnerRez under Billing → Premium Features → Hosted Websites.
- Your site live on your own domain. A new Hosted Website starts at a test address on an OwnerRez domain, so add Hazelchat to the address guests will use.
- A Hazelchat account. The Free plan includes 50 answers a month on one website, with no card.
- Is your rental site built with WordPress or Wix instead? Use the WordPress plugin or the Wix app.
Add Hazelchat to OwnerRez in five steps
-
In Hazelchat
Add your content
Under Sources, choose Add website and tick your property pages, house rules and any FAQ page. Add a Q&A with Add Q&A for anything that is on no page. Ask your agent a few guest questions under Test agent.
-
In Hazelchat
Copy the code
Open Install in setup, or later Website → Install on your website → Continue setup. Choose Something else and Continue, then open Copy the code. It is one line with your public widget key, which is not a password:
<script src="https://app.hazelchat.co/widget.js" data-agent="YOUR-WIDGET-KEY" defer></script> -
In OwnerRez
Paste it into the Head tab
Go to Settings → Hosted Websites, open your website, then Theme & Layout. On the Head tab, paste the line and save. Code in the Head tab is on every page of your site.
-
In Hazelchat
Switch it on
Enter your website’s address and click I’ve added the code. Then click Publish and switch on (or Switch on if your agent is already published). Hazelchat first looks for the code on your website and only then makes the chat visible.
-
On your site
Ask it a question
Open your website, refresh it and ask what a guest would ask, such as the check-in time. Then return to Hazelchat and click Yes, I saw this answer.
The OwnerRez steps follow OwnerRez’s own help (How to Add Custom Code, Hosted Websites Overview and Going Live with a Custom Domain Name), read on 22 October 2026. We have not yet tested Hazelchat on an OwnerRez site ourselves. If a menu looks different, OwnerRez’s page is the up-to-date one.
Check it works
- Open your site in a private window and view the page source: the Hazelchat line sits in the head of the page.
- If Hazelchat cannot find the code, check that you saved the Head tab and that the line is complete, with your own key. Then try again.
- If you pasted the line into the home page’s Intro instead, it is on the home page only. Move it to the Head tab so the chat is on your property pages too.
Visitor consent
If your cookie banner has a service named Hazelchat, the chat follows it, with no code. Which banners.
To keep the chat closed until a visitor agrees, add data-require-consent="true" to the line, before defer. The chat then waits until your consent tool sends:
window.dispatchEvent(new CustomEvent('hazelchat-consent', { detail: true }));
Send detail: false when a visitor withdraws consent. With this option and no event, no chat appears, so test it on your live site.
Pause or remove
Pause the chat
Switch Hazelchat off on its Website page. It stops answering straight away, and the line on your site shows nothing.
Remove it from the site
In OwnerRez, open Theme & Layout → Head, delete the Hazelchat line and save. Your Hazelchat account and plan are not affected.
